The club wishes to congratulate Bec Kovacic, Robert Elkerton, Laura McShane and Ryan Cooper on being recognised as club captains for the upcoming athletics season.
All athletes have experienced success as juniors, and are now transitioning into becoming senior members of the OVA Southern Saints.
Talking with both Bec and Laura, both female sprinters were excited to be able to contribute through to the club in an official capacity and assist in the development of our junior members.
"I'm really looking forward to being a role model to the younger athletes," McShane told the OVA media team.
"The club has grown massively over the past few years," Kovacic stated, "as a senior athlete, I'm looking forward to being able to help at interclub".
Like our female leaders, sprinter/jumper Cooper said he was looking to bring a positive attitude to the club.
"As one of the more experienced athletes at the club, I'm hopeful of being able to provide insight or answer questions newer members might have on interclub day. Particularly in the jumps, there aren't too many athletes in the discipline at the moment, I'm excited to be able to provide any tips on what to do or how to approach the day".
The club has seen success in utlising club captains over the past four seasons, each of whom have brought a unique approach to leading the club and contributing.
The committee is also developing a document around roles and responsibilities of our club captains, as we look to extend their influence beyond the track and field.
We also caught up with our female leaders and produced this short video.
