Dear OVA Members,

It is my pleasure and a great privilege to be the newly elected President of OVA and I congratulate all those who have stepped up to the committee for the 2014/15 Season. OVA is a very proud club, rich in history and have had great success, with club champions competing at the pinnacle of sport, The Olympic Games.

OVA is entering into a very exciting phase with great opportunities on the horizon. Over the past year the committee have been involved in developing the clubs Mission Statement which is a requirement for all clubs to complete. Along with this, we’re very passionate about our Development Plan to encourage young athletes to OVA. We have a great opportunity to impact Little Athletic Clubs, but will require involvement from our more senior athletes and will give our future leaders an opportunity to get involved.

We want to ensure that our members get connected and stay connected with all the current news. We have a fantastic website, thanks to Dom Anastasio and with Social Media taking over the world, I think it’s important that we move with the times and work out the most efficient way for members to easily access current news. It’ll be important that everybody will have access and this will be one issue that I’ll want to get right from the outset.

2014 is the 50th Anniversary of the Old Virgilians Athletics Club since the re-creation in 1964. The Anniversary will be held on the 8th of November 2014 at the Tasmanian Hockey Centre. We're hoping to see a huge turnout of past and present club champions, characters and supporters. This evening will provide a great opportunity for our current athletes to see the champions of the past and help OVA build a strong culture going into the 2014/15 Track and Field Season.

Please know that the committee will be working very hard in finding new innovative ways for OVA to build on our strengths but also not limit ourselves to future opportunities. Feel free to get in contact either with myself or any of the current committee members with any concerns and our meetings will have an open door policy.

We are yet to lock in when our monthly meetings will be but I believe the second week in each month will work best, as the Athletics South meetings are conducted the first Tuesday of every month.I’m incredibly excited to serve as your President and I hope that together we can drive OVA to greatness.
