Athletics Tasmania is pleased to confirm that the Briggs Athletics Classic will be held in 2016 - at the Domain Athletic Centre on Saturday 13 February, beginning at 4.00pm with the men's discus and then with both field and track events from 5.15pm through until 8.30pm. The format will be different in 2016 with more opportunity for AT and LAT members to take part.
The following events are currently proposed. Within the next day or so, entry for all events will be possible through the AA website. We will provide a link once it is set up from the AT website.
Note:
(1) the open men's and women's races will be run as two series.
Athletes will only be able to run in series 2 if they raced in series 1.
It is not compulsory to run in series 2 - in other words athletes can
opt to run in series 1 only. The idea is to give 100 metres athletes the
opportunity to compete twice during the program in potentially
different conditions. More than one race may be conducted for each sex
in each series. If there is more than one race in series 2, seeding will
be based on performance in series 1.
(2) the events marked # are AA
tour events and the field will be selected. In other words not all
athletes who enter will necessarily be accepted. - although two races
may be offered in the men's 400m if entries justify it. [The same will
apply for the men's 800m and women's 400m if entries require]
(3) the two mile races and the pole vault will be conducted as mixed gender and on a handicap basis.
(4) please note that year of birth entry requirements will apply to many "support" events.
(5) 100 metres events are open also to athletes registered only with Little Athletics Tasmania.
(6) a draft TT has been submitted to AA for comment. Once given the OK we will publish on the AT website but as always both the events and timings are subject to change. The overall time period for for meet will however not change.
